According to various studies, looking at an electronic device before sleeping can not only keep you awake at night but can also lessen the quality of sleep during the night. Sleep is one of the most important factors in good health.
That “glow” from electronics is also at work against quality shuteye. The small amounts of light from these devices pass through the retina into a part of the hypothalamus (the area of the brain that controls several sleep activities) and delay the release of the sleep-inducing hormone, melatonin. 
Many people use their devices as alarm clocks but struggle to resist checking email, looking up some information that is rolling around in their minds, watching videos etc. Our devices can be a huge distraction and take up a lot of time.
Something I have started doing recently that has helped a lot with this problem is I now charge my phone, tablet and laptop out in the living room where it is out of sight and out of mind. I bought a cheap $10 old fashioned alarm clock and once I’m off to bed I don’t go back out to check on things.
I have to admit at first it was a little strange but now I really enjoy it. It’s very freeing and liberating to just focus on the Lord and sleep. It has also helped my reading and praying at night as I can think on spiritual things easier as I fall asleep.
I have also noticed that slowly (it has only been a few weeks), my sleep is getting better and I am feeling more refreshed when I wake up. My mind is in less of a turmoil. This allows me to concentrate better when I am reading my Bible in the morning.
So take the advice from the doctors to put away your devices before sleep and take my word of testimony as an encouragement to give it a try. Focus on the Lord as you fall asleep and wake up. Your spiritual and physical health will be much better for it.
