I Have an iHeadache

April 26th, 2013 by Sherri Jason

Android-Vs-iOSTwo of my sons, Caleb and Jared, have wanted “iPods” for the longest time.  Jared has saved up his money and has been on the hunt for a used iPod for awhile and Caleb turns 13 next month so I said we could get him a used one for his birthday.  For Jared, when he said iPod, he meant iPod.  For Caleb, he just meant a really cool touch screen gadget that he can play games and music on.

How To Resurrect Your PowerPoint Presentations

April 24th, 2013 by Scott Thomson

SlideShare IconYesterday Crawford Paul shared some excellent PowerPoint design tips to help you improve your PowerPoint presentations. If you missed his post I would highly encourage you to check it out.

In my preaching ministry I occasionally use PowerPoint to augment a message. However, I must confess that in the past I would question the cost/benefit ratio of preparing a PowerPoint slide show.

After all, it may take an additional 4 or 5 hours to prepare an effective slideshow. Would the time I invest really be worth it? At most I might show the presentation only once or twice– only to be long forgotten on my harddrive.

Then along came SlideShare.

What in the world is SlideShare you ask? Great question.

PowerPoint Design Tips

April 23rd, 2013 by Crawford Paul

Creating an appealing PowerPoint presentation for messages is not always easy. You need the right blend of backgrounds, colors and images to make it work well. You want to engage your audience so they are interested and not distracted. Here’s some tips when creating your slides to keep in mind.

1. Don’t clutter

There is nothing worse than trying to read a slide that has so much info on it that you don’t know where to look. Keep your slides clean, uncluttered and avoid lots of images on one slide.

Boston Marathon Bombers Manhunt Tweeted Live

April 19th, 2013 by Crawford Paul

As the events of Monday became clearer and the authorities had the suspects they felt were responsible in the public eye, it didn’t take long for things to unravel. Late Thursday night a shootout and chase ensued between the 2 suspects and the police. What was fascinating was that the entire event on Thursday was followed live by people in their homes via Twitter.  Photos and videos were tweeted as the action was happening.

Below is a picture that was tweeted last night from a man whose house was struck during the shootout. He tweeted his chair and wall with the bullet hole in them.

Boston Marathon Bombings – the Role of Twitter During a Crisis

April 18th, 2013 by Sherri Jason

Boston-bombing

I recently posted an article about Twitter turning 7.  I am not great with timelines and dates, because it seems like Twitter has been around much longer than that.  I have children who will be able to say that it’s been around their entire lifetime.  Time sure does go by quickly.  At the 10th anniversary of 9/11 I was completely shocked it had been so long and in fact, that a couple of my kids hadn’t even been born yet when it happened.

Blogging From 36,000 Feet

April 17th, 2013 by Scott Thomson

soutwestairplane

I’m writing and posting this blog entry from 36,000 feet somewhere over the United States sitting in seat 18E on Southwest Airlines flight #3511 Baltimore, MD to Seattle, WA.

Not that long ago the idea of placing a phone call from an airplane seemed like science fiction. But today it has become commonplace to Facebook, tweet, and instant message all from the comfort of your seat as you jet across the country. Amazing.

The Whole World Connected in 10 Years?

April 16th, 2013 by Crawford Paul

everyone-connected

According to Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, the plan is for every person in the world to be on the internet in the next decade.  Last week he sent out this tweet, “Think about how great the internet is with 2B (billion) users. Now think about how amazing it will be when 5B (billion) come online in a decade.”

Is Technology Making Us Lazy?

April 12th, 2013 by Crawford Paul

I recently read an article about a new brand chain of hotels that are controlled entirely by Samsung tablets. A person walks into the hotel, checks in at an automated kiosk and when they enter their room a tablet is waiting for them. According to the company website, “The touchscreen tablet lets you control the room, including television, window blinds, temperature, ambient colored lighting, wake-up alarm themes and more. You can also use the tablet to stay in touch via Facebook, twitter, foursquare or any other channel you prefer.” [1] After a visit to the hotel one reporter claimed, “We don’t know how we’ll go back to a room where you actually have to get up to do things.” [2]

Bible Reading – traditional or digital?

April 11th, 2013 by Sherri Jason

As I mentioned in a previous post, I recently purchased a Google Nexus 7.  Surprisingly, I was able to transition fairly well from my traditional paper planner and start using my tablet as my daily planner.  It took awhile to get used to, and sometimes I miss the ability to doodle and put things in boxes and underline things 10 times, etc.  But overall, the transition is permanent.

So, in my efforts to transition to digital, my NKJV Scofield Bible began to gather a bit of dust as I started using my tablet. I like reading on the tablet and the ability to listen to the Bible read aloud to me as well is a really cool feature. I have the YouVersion Bible on my tablet (and my Android phone for that matter).  I just love this App.
