The Google Nexus 7 is my new toy tool. I am an Android fan and currently own an Android phone and we also have a 10″ Motorola Xoom at our house that my family all shares. As excited as I was to purchase the 10″ tablet at the time, I found the size cumbersome. I had wanted to use it for a planner and for the Bible app but for me, it was a pain to carry around. Particularly on Sunday mornings, as I’m shooing my rather large family out the door, carrying a purse, sometimes food for a potluck or Sunday School materials, the last thing I want to carry is what feels like a piece of equipment with me.
However, I found the tablet to be so useful for the YouVersion Bible app while my phone seemed too small. But as I sat there in my row, I somehow felt conspicuous about having it there with me. Not that there’s anything wrong with using it, but it seemed so… well… visible and I didn’t want to distract anyone.
Enter the Nexus 7. The 7 indicating that it has a 7″ screen. This is the perfect size for me. It fits right in my purse and in fact, has replaced my paper planner which was such a huge step for me. I am happy to say that I am totally comfortable bringing it to meeting. One other thing I love about it is that I can type like on a phone, using my thumbs as I hold the tablet upright. The 10″ was a ridiculously slow process of using my index fingers, which is painful for someone who normally types at a fast pace.
I’m in the process of setting it up and I’m sure as I come across other features and uses I can share those with you. Anyone else out there using a tablet this size? Any iPad Mini users out there?
